Mini Web Quest on Slavery in the US
1. With a partner or alone, visit www.infoplease.com/timelines/history-slavery-america and read the timeline carefully. Pay close attention to the years 1800-1860.
2. Select one PERSON, one PLACE (laws about territories can be places) one THING (machines and laws can be things) and one IDEA (people who lead movements/ revolts can be ideas) from the timeline that you and your partner agree did the most to cause the American Civil War.
3. Using the blue words in the timeline (these are links), research the 4 items you selected. If you need to use another source, use the ones listed below BEFORE turning to Google.
4. In your personal notes, record sources and notes on the items you researched.
5. Together with your partner, create a paper divided into 4 sections and:
Give it the title "Causes of the Civil War"
Label each section with the name of the person/place/thing/idea.
Write a definition or explanation of each item in your own words.
Explain how each item led to the Civil War.
Sketch an image representing each person, place, thing, and idea.
6. Label the back of the paper with both partner's names, your class, and the date. Turn it in to Mrs. Mapson. Your final product should be a neat, attractive mini-poster.
